As part of their learning about ‘People Who Help Us’, the morning nursery children had a surprise visit from Wolverhampton Fire Brigade. The children learned about a fire fighter’s uniform and tried the helmets on. Phew, they were so heavy! Then they looked around the fire engine and learned about the important equipment a fire fighter uses. After that, the children sat inside the fire engine and pretended to be fire fighters travelling to an emergency. The best part of the morning was spraying water across the playground from the hose. Even though, some of us had a little shower. At the end of the visit, Green Watch left with a blast from the siren and a friendly wave.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and would like to thank Green Watch for a fantastic learning experience.
Selected children from Year 5/6 choir were chosen to represent our school in the Singing in the Rain concert this year at Queen Square.
Rain certainly was not an issue, as the sun shone the whole time, and as the pictures show, the children thoroughly enjoyed singing their hearts out!
Individuals were chosen also to play instruments on the stage this year, which they enjoyed immensely, hence the huge smiles!
Morning Nursery children have thoroughly enjoyed role-playing step by step the last royal wedding for a generation. Teachers, support staff, parents, businesses in the community and the children have all worked in partnership to create a powerful learning experience and a wonderful memory. The photographs speak for themselves depicting the attention to detail, high expectations of the teaching team resulting in the best outcomes for our children.
A very big thank you to everyone for enabling us to have our own Royal Wedding 2018!

Year 2 enjoyed a ‘Royal Wedding’ celebration day. We all dressed up in red, white and blue and learnt about a traditional church wedding. We also designed wedding dresses, commemorative mugs and wedding cakes. The school cook made us delicious cake to eat too!
In afternoon Nursery children dressed in red, white and blue and enjoyed learning about the Royal wedding. We saw photographs of the Royal couple and explored real wedding objects to learn new words. We made flags, bunting, red, white and blue chains to decorate the nursery. On the dough table and in the mud kitchen they made wedding food fit for royalty. In the flower shop we arranged and sold wedding bouquets. We also made confetti and wedding cards and danced to wedding music and sang a wedding rhyme.
In the week beginning 7th May 2018, Reception and Nursery came together to launch the reading for pleasure programme called FRED – Fathers Reading Every Day. The children enjoyed the opportunity to have a healthy breakfast with their fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and cousins and mothers. For four weeks, fathers and father figures will spend 15 minutes a day for two weeks, reading with their children – then 30 minutes a day for a second two weeks. Each father will record the amount of time spent reading to their children and the number of books read. Thank you to Mrs Sahni, Jeszemma Garratt (Head of FRED training) and Mrs Harrison for their excellent speeches about the importance of FRED at Goldthorn!
We also had a visit from the Express and Star!
Thank you to all the parents/carers who supported our Easter fayre - I'm sure you'll agree it was a great success!
Well done to all the children who made an Easter bonnet - they were spectacular!
Year One had a visit from Zoo2U who brought us some some furry, feathery, and scaly creatures as part of our science topic. They met some tortoises, guinea pigs, a hognose snake, boa constrictor, skunk, kestrel, a white faced owl, a greater tenrec and a very noisy parrot! As well as this we also had lots of fun making animal masks, animal habitats and going on a minibeast hunt. The children were able to learn all about the different habitats they live in, what they eat, and animal classifications. A great day was had by all! Have a look at some of our habitats we made. I’m sure you will agree they look amazing!
What a wonderful end to our WWII topic…
We invited the parents in for a special assembly, so we could share all the fantastic work we have produced this term!
We performed some WWII playscripts (which were written by ourselves), performed some WWII songs and had a chance to share evacuation letter writing, homework projects, and ‘Blitz’ art work with the parents. All children (and staff of course) dressed up for the day to help celebrate what has been a most enjoyable, and successful History topic this term! Mrs Lombardi even performed the ‘Jitterbug’ dance!
All of the children have made the Year 5 teachers feel incredibly proud of their commitment, enthusiasm and hard work put into this topic this term. Well done all!
The children in Reception had a wonderful time celebrating this event. The children and teachers dressed up as characters from the Jungle Book and were given a special treat to watch the theatrical production at school, thank you M&M theatre company for a spectacular show! Also, the teachers took part in share a story sessions with children from other year groups and the children had a delicious World Book Day lunch. In Reception, the children participated in show and tell circle time where they were able to discuss and draw their favourite story books.
