Reception

On 18th May 2018, Reception celebrated the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The children learnt about the members of the Royal Family and took part in a traditional church wedding role-play. They all looked fantastic! The children had a scrumptious piece of wedding cake and gingerbread biscuits made by a parent in RS and it was delicious! At lunchtime, the children were served a royal wedding buffet.

Year 2 enjoyed a ‘Royal Wedding’ celebration day. We all dressed up in red, white and blue and learnt about a traditional church wedding. We also designed wedding dresses, commemorative mugs and wedding cakes. The school cook made us delicious cake to eat too!

May 2018

In afternoon Nursery children dressed in red, white and blue and enjoyed learning about the Royal wedding. We saw photographs of the Royal couple and explored real wedding objects to learn new words. We made flags, bunting, red, white and blue chains to decorate the nursery. On the dough table and in the mud kitchen they made wedding food fit for royalty. In the flower shop we arranged and sold wedding bouquets. We also made confetti and wedding cards and danced to wedding music and sang a wedding rhyme.

A huge WELL DONE to all of our Year 2 and Year 6 pupils who have completed their SATs examinations over the last two weeks. They have worked extremely hard and we are very proud of them.

In the week beginning 7th May 2018, Reception and Nursery came together to launch the reading for pleasure programme called FRED – Fathers Reading Every Day. The children enjoyed the opportunity to have a healthy breakfast with their fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and cousins and mothers. For four weeks, fathers and father figures will spend 15 minutes a day for two weeks, reading with their children – then 30 minutes a day for a second two weeks. Each father will record the amount of time spent reading to their children and the number of books read. Thank you to Mrs Sahni, Jeszemma Garratt (Head of FRED training) and Mrs Harrison for their excellent speeches about the importance of FRED at Goldthorn!

April 2018

Year 2 have visited Warwick Castle and had a fabulous day. We saw first-hand what a castle really looked like and went in the Great Hall to see the weapons, armour and shields that were used a long time ago. We experienced an Archer shooting arrows, the trebuchet working and birds of prey flying through the air.

In the Kingmaker exhibition we learnt about life long ago and how Knights prepared for battle.

All staff wish you a very happy Easter. We hope you have a lovely holiday and we look forward to seeing the children safely back at school on Monday 16th April.

March 2018

The morning nursery children visited Spring Vale library on Thursday 15th March. They learned about how the library works and had the opportunity to make masks related to stories.
Elizabeth (the community librarian) shared some of her favourite books with us.
The children then chose books to read alone, or to share with their family and friends. They enjoyed looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction books, and all left with their own library card and first set of book loans!

March 2018

Year One had a visit from Zoo2U who brought us some some furry, feathery, and scaly creatures as part of our science topic. They met some tortoises, guinea pigs, a hognose snake, boa constrictor, skunk, kestrel, a white faced owl, a greater tenrec and a very noisy parrot! As well as this we also had lots of fun making animal masks, animal habitats and going on a minibeast hunt. The children were able to learn all about the different habitats they live in, what they eat, and animal classifications. A great day was had by all! Have a look at some of our habitats we made. I’m sure you will agree they look amazing!

Please note the deadline for handing in orders for your child to have milk next term, is Friday 23rd March.  No orders can be accepted after this date due to the supplier deadline.  Thank you.
