Spring Term 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
The students at Goldthorn Park Primary have been exploring and conducting experiments in celebration of British Science Week.

Our newly appointed Science Ambassadors have been chosen, and our Science lead, Miss Hill, is eager to start their development. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) is important to everyone, and we aim to prepare our children for their future career choices by exploring the role STEM has in the world around us.

Last week we hosted the Scholastic book fair and due to your support we raised £568.87 which means school will receive £227.55 worth of reading books for use across school. A huge thank you for this as reading is at the heart of all learning.
In the Wolverhampton Tag-rugby competition last week, children from Year 3 and Year 4 represented our school. They performed admirably, narrowly missing the final with a win, a draw, and a loss. Event staff praised our teams for their respectfulness and focus. We are eager to build on this sporting success.
We are thrilled to announce our Friday Lunchtime Disco! Key Stage 2 children enjoyed fantastic music from our new outdoor speaker system. Mr. Middleton and the children had a great time displaying their dance moves and singing enthusiastically!
We aim to make this a weekly event on our Early Years, KS1, and KS2 playgrounds during lunchtimes. Song requests are warmly welcomed!
We work in partnership for our children; thank you all for your continued support.

Best wishes,
Mrs Purshouse

Anti-Racism day at Goldthorn Park.
Across the world, the 21st March is marked every year as the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination’, where the message is reinforced that we are all equal and have the right to fair treatment and equality.
We marked the day in school by celebrating our uniqueness and our differences. We considered what makes up our identity, who we are, and how we can be a good friend.
We explored the important message that everyone has the right to be treated fairly, free of discrimination, no matter where they live, where they are from, the colour of the skin, the language they speak, or their religious and cultural beliefs.
We discussed the topic of racism, how to recognise it, and how to speak out against it. We thought about the power of our words and how they can make others feel.
At Goldthorn Park, we know that racism must never be tolerated and we must always speak out against it. Here are some of our activities that we enjoyed throughout the day!

Year 1 Jurassic Hunter - History Day
Year 1 explored the work of Mary Anning the famous fossil Hunter and created their own fossils using clay. The children used their skills to replicate the Plesiosaurus skeleton that she found using straws.

Nursery Published Poets
Some of our youngest children in Nursery wrote a poem to a 'Young Writers' competition and they were all chosen to be a part of a 'My First Poem' book with their parents' permission. The children thought of their own poem and wrote them with some adult support. They have all been awarded with a certificate and a bookmark and if their parents sign the letter, they will be published into a book which the parents can then buy. Published poets and they are only 3 years old... amazing!
